The Osterberg between Emmerke and Himmelsthür in the Lower Saxony district of Hildesheim is about 181  m above sea level. NHN high elevation of the Giesen mountains belonging to the Innerstebergland .

The Osterberg is located in the northern central part of the Giesener Berge , which connect to the north of the Hildesheim Forest , which is up to 358.9  m high, and from there strive north. It rises east of the Giesen district of Emmerke and northwest of the Hildesheim district of Himmelsthür ; the municipality and city limits run over the top of the elevation. To the north, the landscape leads to the (The) Giesener Berge and up to 162.6  m high northern part of the ridge, to the south to the Finkenberg ( 222.5  m ) and to the south-southeast to the Gallberg (approx.  156  m ). The Hildesheim training area used to be on the elevation .

Natural allocation

The Osterberg belongs in the natural spatial main unit group Weser-Leine-Bergland (No. 37), in the main unit Innerstebergland (379) and in the subunit Hildesheimer Bergland (379.0) to the natural area Giesener Berge (379.00).

Protected areas

Parts of the nature reserve Lange Dreisch and Osterberg ( CDDA no. 555546; designated 2011; 2.45  km² ) and parts of the fauna-flora-habitat area Haseder Busch, Giesener Berge, Gallberg, Finkenberg ( FFH no. 3825-301; 7.42 km²).

Traffic and walking

To the south past the Osterberg leads between Emmerke and Himmelsthür in a west-east direction the federal road 1 , from which the district road  102 branches off and runs north-east through Himmelsthür. For example, on this street or on its side streets that lead southeast of the elevation through residential areas, the Osterberg can be hiked.
