The Finkenberg is located in the southern central part of the Giesener Berge , which connect to the north of the Hildesheim Forest , which is up to 358.9 m high, and from there strive north. It rises between Sorsum in the west and Moritzberg in the east, both of which belong to the city of Hildesheim . Protected areas
The northern part of the Finkenberg / Lerchenberg nature reserve ( CDDA no. 329374; designated 2004; 2.57 km² in size) is located on the Finkenberg , to which the NSG Gallberg (CDDA no. 81710; 1976; 42 ha ) adjoins to the northeast . North of the survey is a region of the multipart protected landscape Gallberg, Finkenberg and Lerchenberg (CDDA number 320,950th; 1968 1.01 square kilometers). In addition, northern parts of the fauna-flora-habitat area Haseder Busch, Giesener Berge, Gallberg, Finkenberg (FFH no. 3825-301; 7.42 km²) and northern parts of the Hildesheimer Wald bird sanctuary (VSG no. 3825 ) lie on the elevation -401; 12.47 km²).
Geology and flora
The Finkenberg consists mainly of shell limestone and is predominantly forested with red beeches , deciduous trees and oaks .
