The Lerchenberg near Neuhof in the Lower Saxony district of Hildesheim is about 242.5  m above sea level. NHN the highest elevation of the Giesen mountains belonging to the Innerstebergland . Its north-northeast flank is called Rottsberg (approx. 200 to 220  m ).

The Lerchenberg is located in the southern part of the Giesener Berge , which connect to the north of the Hildesheim Forest , which is up to 358.9  m high, and from there strive north. It rises directly northwest of Neuhof and a little southwest of Moritzberg , both of which belong to the city of Hildesheim . To the north, the landscape leads east past a possibly nameless knoll ( 226.1  m ) and west past its flank Rottsberg (200 to 220  m ) to Finkenberg ( 222.5  m ).

The Lerchenberg belongs in the natural spatial main unit group Weser-Leine-Bergland (No. 37), in the main unit Innerstebergland (379) and in the subunit Hildesheimer Bergland (379.0) to the natural area Giesener Berge (379.00), with its landscape towards the south in the natural space Hildesheim forest (379.01) passes.

Protected areas

The southern part of the Finkenberg / Lerchenberg nature reserve is located on the Lerchenberg ( CDDA no. 329374; 2004 designated; 2.57  km² in size). On parts of its flanks there are spatially separate areas of the landscape protection area (LSG) Gallberg, Finkenberg and Lerchenberg (CDDA no. 320950; 1968; 1.01 km²) and the LSG Rottsberghang (CDDA no. 323996; 1992; 1.29 km²). In addition, southern parts of the fauna-flora-habitat area Haseder Busch, Giesener Berge, Gallberg, Finkenberg (FFH no. 3825-301; 7.42 km²) and northern parts of the Hildesheimer Wald bird sanctuary (VSG no. 3825 ) lie on the elevation -401; 12.47 km²).

The Lerchenberg consists mainly of shell limestone and is predominantly forested with red beeches , deciduous trees and oaks .

Traffic and walking

West past the Lerchenberg, coming from the federal road 1 near Emmerke , in north-south direction the state road  460 runs to the Hildesheim district Hildesheimer Wald , from which the district road  103 leads north-east to the Hildesheim district Neuhof. For example, starting at these roads, the elevation can be hiked on mostly forest paths and paths or, coming from Hildesheim- Moritzberg , on the circular hiking trail Route 2 , which also leads to Lerchenberg .
