Ostroróg ( German Scharfenort ) is a town with about 1900 inhabitants in the powiat Szamotulski of the Greater Poland Voivodeship in Poland . It is the seat of the town-and-country municipality of the same name with 4942 inhabitants (as of June 30, 2019).
history
Ostroróg was first mentioned in documents in 1383 . In 1412 Ostroróg received town charter , in 1546 some of the surrounding farms and hamlets were attached to Ostroróg under Sigismund the Old . Since 1436 Ostroróg was owned by the noble family Ostroróg .
After Jakub Ostroróg was won over to the Reformation, the local church was temporarily Protestant; In November 1553, Georg Israel, a clergyman of the Bohemian Brethren who was important for the spread of the Reformation in Greater Poland, moved into the local rectory.
