Othmar Huber

Othmar Huber (born April 5, 1892 in Oberkulm ; † December 27, 1979 in Glarus , reformed , resident in Oberkulm) was a Swiss ophthalmologist and art collector .

Life

Othmar Huber was born on April 5, 1892 as the son of the owner of the Wolfgalgen Hof Friedrich Huber in Oberkulm. After graduating from the canton school in Aarau , Huber studied medicine in Geneva , Zurich , Berlin and Prague from 1912 to 1919 .

As a result, Huber specialized in ophthalmology. He ran private practices between 1922 and 1923 in St. Gallen and between 1924 and 1973 in Glarus. In addition, from 1924 to 1962 he headed the eye department at the Glarus Cantonal Hospital as chief physician .

Othmar Huber, who in 1922 became Dr. phil. Berta, the daughter of the jeweler Adolf Bindschedler, died on December 27, 1979 at the age of 87 in Glarus.

Act

In 1927, Othmar Huber had a new ophthalmological department set up at the Glarner Kantonsspital. He was also an important art collector and built up an internationally renowned art collection, which is now a foundation in the art museums of Bern , Aarau and Glarus . In the years 1933 to 1940, 1947 to 1950 and 1959 to 1971, Huber acted as President of the Glarner Kunstverein.
