The Otterbäke , also called Elmendorfer Bäke shortly before the mouth , is a flowing body of water in the Lower Saxony district of Ammerland .
The approximately 12 km long stream flows in the communities of Wiefelstede and Bad Zwischenahn . The catchment area is 13.8 km². It has its source in Dringenburg . From here it flows in a south-westerly direction and crosses under the federal motorway 28 . It then flows through Elmendorf to form one of the tributaries into the Zwischenahner Meer near Dreibergen .
Aquatic ecology
The body of water corresponds to the surface water type "gravelly lowland stream (type 16)", which is "significantly changed" due to morphological changes, pollution with nutrients and pollution with organic compounds. The course of the water course is largely straightened, which results in a lack of runway and bed structures (89% of the sections have quality class VI “very heavily modified waterway sections”, 11% quality class V “strongly modified waterway sections”).
The profile varies mainly between the trapezoid and the entertainment profile. In large parts the sole is still characterized by gravel, but "quicksands" are increasingly noticeable. Curvature erosion and embankments are greatly reduced in the course of the water. A water edge or fringing strip is only very sporadic, and use usually extends to the edge of the water.
According to the Water Framework Directive, the Otterbäke was classified as having an "unsatisfactory" ecological potential. The chemical condition was rated "good". The fish and the macrozoobenthos were in an "unsatisfactory" condition, the macrozoobenthos in a "moderate" condition.
The NLWKN has classified the water with priority 6. Priority 6 was determined if there are sections of water in large-scale biocenotically impoverished processing areas in which cost-effective improvements seem possible at least for the fish fauna. .
