Otto Grieg Tidemand (born June 18, 1921 in Christiania ; † June 10, 2006 in Oslo ) was a Norwegian economic manager , entrepreneur and politician of the Høyre , who served in the government of Prime Minister Per Borten from 1965 to 1970, first defense minister and then between 1970 and 1971 was still Minister for Trade and Shipping.

Life

Second World War and owner of a shipping company

Tidemand, son of the wholesaler Sverre Tidemand and his wife Else Grieg, began studying and taking a course at the Oslo Commercial High School after attending school in 1940, which he interrupted in 1941 to complete pilot training at a flight school in Canada by 1942 . He was then a pilot in the Royal Air Force (RAF) air force (Luftforsvaret) between 1942 and 1946 and received several awards for his services. As part of a government reshuffle, he took over the office of Minister for Trade and Shipping (Handels- og Skipsfartsminister) on June 5, 1970 from his party friend Kåre Willoch , while Gunnar Hellesen succeeded him as Minister of Defense. He held the office of Minister for Trade and Shipping until the end of Borten's term on March 17, 1971.

In his role as Minister of Commerce from 1970 to 1971, he was a member of both the Council of the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the Asian Development Bank .
