Otto Hromatka

Otto Hromatka (born May 24, 1905 in Vienna ; † September 2, 1999 there ) was an Austrian chemist and university professor.

Live and act

He studied chemistry at the University of Vienna , where he was a research assistant with Ernst Späth after receiving his doctorate in 1929 . Until 1930 he worked for Emalia Olkusz, a Polish enamel producer in Olkusz . In 1931 he was Ernst Späth's private assistant. In 1931 he worked for the pharmaceutical company Merck KGaA in Darmstadt and returned to Vienna in 1941, where he became an assistant at the University of Vienna. From 1942 he was a lecturer in organic chemistry , from 1951 associate professor at the University of Vienna and from 1963 full professor at the Technical University of Vienna . As a result, he was head of the institute for organic chemistry at the Technical University of Vienna .

Around 1949 he and Heinrich Ebner invented a new process for making vinegar . In the course of his life he also developed drugs, especially antispasmodics and sedatives. He also found a more effective method for the production of vitamin E .

Otto was married to Edeltraut Hromatka (1906–2005), their son is Hans Hromatka. He is now the majority owner of Brevillier Urban & Sachs and Cretacolor . Otto Hromatka was buried at the Pötzleinsdorfer Friedhof (group GR, number 1).
