Otto Kern (born February 8, 1950 in Nördlingen ; † December 10 or 11, 2017 in Larvotto , Monaco ) was a German fashion entrepreneur.

Life

After his high school core began law and economics at the University of Frankfurt am Main to study. During this time he worked as a temporary worker at the men's outfitter Annas Menshop . He broke off his studies, commissioned his first shirt collection in his mother's underwear factory and soon afterwards founded Otto Kern GmbH & Co. KG . In 1993 he sold 60 percent of his company to MHM Mode Holding and in 2000 he sold further shares to Ahlers AG, including the rights to his own brand "Otto Kern".
After that he withdrew completely into private life.

Most recently, Kern lived in Kitzbühel , Monaco and St. Barth . On December 11, 2017, Kern was found dead in Monaco on the terrace of the first floor of Le Formentor , a residential residence in the Larvotto district , where he lived on the 13th floor. The exact circumstances of death have not yet been clarified. Otto Kern rests on the Cimetiére de Monaco .

Private

Kern was married four times: in 1979 he married the half-Vietnamese Patricia Kern. This marriage was divorced in 1985 and the second marriage between 1996 and 1999 was with the designer Sarah Kern (née Reismann ).
Kern's third wife, Daniela Filipovic, with whom he had been married since 2002, died in an accident on Autobahn 8 in 2004 . According to police investigations, the 32-year-old is said to have been heavily drunk on the night of Christmas Day and was run over there. She died from her serious injuries in the hospital.
In 2008, Kern married the 27-year-old model Naomi Valeska Salz, who sells her own fashion collection under the label “Naomi Valeska Couture”.

His three children are from his first two wives.

Motorsport

He campaigned for motorsport by providing financial support to the former Formula 1 champion Keke Rosberg and also driving races himself.

Companies

The Otto Kern GmbH & Co. KG was founded in 1970 in Kaiserslautern formed after the core had designed his first shirt collection. The first women's collection was launched in 1972. In the first season Kern was able to sell around 20,000 shirts and in 1973 the company posted sales of 25 million marks .

In 2000 the entrepreneur Otto Kern sold his trademark rights to the men's fashion manufacturer Ahlers AG in Herford .
From 2006, Otto Kern Cosmetics GmbH in Stolberg (Rhineland) marketed perfumes , laundry soaps and cosmetics under the label "Otto Kern" , which are manufactured under license by Mäurer & Wirtz .
