Otto Magnus von Stackelberg (born February 7, 1736 - † November 8, 1800 in Dresden ) was a German-Baltic , Russian diplomat.

Life

His father was the knighthood captain Otto Magnus von Stackelberg (1704–1765), his mother Anna Magdalena, geb. from Bellingshausen. After studying in Leipzig (1753), Stackelberg traveled to Italy and France. After that he lived on his estates in Estonia. In 1758 he married Sophia Gerdruta, b. from Völckersahm, in Haljall .

In 1765 Stackelberg entered the Russian civil service and initially worked in the College of Foreign Affairs in St. Petersburg . From 1767 to 1771 he represented the Russian Empire as Plenipotentiary Minister in Spain. In 1771 Catherine II appointed him real chamberlain . In the following year he began working as envoy extraordinary in Warsaw . There he managed to get the Polish king and Reichstag to accept the 1st partition treaty . In 1775, Stackelberg was founded by Emperor Joseph II.appointed Count of the Roman Empire. Until 1790 he continued to work as an extraordinary ambassador in Warsaw. From 1791 to 1793 he worked as an extraordinary ambassador in Stockholm , where, among other things, he brought about the conclusion of a Russian-Swedish friendship treaty.

In 1796, Stackelberg was retired by Paul I. In addition to Paddas , where he last lived, his possessions included the Estonian villages and estates Pühs , Purtz , Hirmus , Woroper , Kochtel , Paggar , Aggimal , Klein Pungern , Klein Soldina , Neu-Wartz , Satzo and Errides .

His son Gustav Ernst von Stackelberg was also an Imperial Russian diplomat.
