Otto Philipp von Rüdigheim (* 1586 in Rückingen ; † August 28, 1638 in Frankfurt am Main ) was a German civil servant in the service of the County of Oldenburg , most recently he was Landdrost von Oldenburg.

Life

Rüdigheim came from the old Hessian noble family Rüdigheim , first mentioned in a document in 1222, and was the only surviving son of the Count of Isenburg's court master Bernhard Philipp von Rüdigheim (* around 1560, † before 1631) and his first wife Margret nee. von Eberstein († May 8, 1599). He was born at the ancestral home, the Wasserburg Rückingen , which his family shared with the related Rückingen family in inheritance . Since the inheritance portion was often insufficient to support the family, family members entered the service of larger neighboring territories.

Otto Philipp von Rüdigheim embarked on a military career and initially worked in the service of Count von Hanau . In 1609 he switched to the service of Count Anton Günther von Oldenburg as Rittmeister . Apparently he quickly won the sovereign's trust and accompanied him on various trips. In 1615 he succeeded in getting his uncle Philipp Burkhard von Rüdigheim (1560 / 65–1635) the post of court master and in 1617 his sister Anna Elisabeth von Rückingen (1584–1652) the position of court master. His service also included numerous diplomatic and court missions that took him to Celle in 1612 , Wolfenbüttel in 1615 , Hamburg , Denmark and Lauenburg in 1619 , Holstein in 1620 , Walsrode , Anhalt and Hanau in 1621 , Vienna in 1624 and Denmark again in 1625 led. Rüdigheim evidently proved himself well on these missions and so he was also appointed Drosten von Ovelgönne in 1622 , who at times also temporarily ran Drosten von Oldenburg's business.

In 1632 he moved to the head of the county administration as Landdrost von Oldenburg. His position corresponded to that of a leading minister later on. He continued to carry out his previous office in Ovelgönne. In 1635 there was a serious conflict over the distribution of tasks with the director of the Count's chancellery Johann Ernst von Holwede , which Rüdigheim was finally able to win by issuing new service instructions on November 22, 1635.

A few years later he died in Frankfurt during a trip to Rückingen.

family

Rüdigheim was married to Catharina born around 1610. von Brobergen († after 1655), the daughter of Johann von Brobergen zu Wollenbecke and Anna born. from the Lieth. From this marriage came the son Anton Günther von Rüdigheim (* July 12, 1614, † August 6, 1655), the Oldenburg Council and Drost of the Stolzenau office . With him, the Rüdigheim family died out in the male line.
