Otto von Dungern

Otto Karl Ludwig Freiherr von Dungern (born October 14, 1875 in Neuwied , † October 4, 1967 in Graz ) was a German-Austrian lawyer and legal historian .

Life

From 1894 von Dungern studied in Edinburgh , Geneva , Munich , Leipzig and Berlin . In 1899 he was in Erlangen Dr. jur. PhD . After working as a trainee lawyer and legal assistant , he qualified as a professor in 1908. In 1911 he became an associate professor for administrative theory and Austrian constitutional and administrative law as well as international law and German legal history at the University of Czernowitz . After the beginning of the First World War in 1914, he was initially in the diplomatic service before he finally became a full professor for constitutional and administrative law at the University of Graz in 1916 , which he remained until his retirement in 1941. From 1920 to 1923 he was a member of the Greater German People's Party in the Styrian state parliament.

One of his main areas of work was German legal and constitutional history, where he mainly dealt with questions of genealogy and nobility .

Otto von Dungern was an honorary member of the Heraldic-Genealogical Society "Adler" (Vienna) and holder of the Johann-Christoph-Gatterer-Medal 1956 in silver.
