Otto von Langenmantel , also Otto Langenmantel von Westheim , (born February 25, 1816 in Weiler , † April 8, 1875 in Munich ) was a German architect and Bavarian construction clerk from the von Langenmantel family of Augsburg .

Live and act

Otto von Langenmantel came from the old Augsburg patrician family of the same name. His father Johann Baptist von Langenmantel was a district building inspector in Kempten (Allgäu) , later also in other places.

Von Langenmantel attended the Königliche Gymnasium Kempten , then from November 1837 the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich . He learned the art of architecture under Friedrich von Gärtner and became a construction officer in the Bavarian civil service.

Leo von Klenze valued the skills of his pupil von Langenmantel and entrusted him with the construction management of the Liberation Hall on the Michelsberg near Kelheim , which he exercised from 1850 to 1856.

From 1872 until his death in 1875, Otto von Langenmantel headed the Landbauamt Munich, the highest state building authority of the royal capital and residence.

He was married to Magdalena geb. Adam (1825–1900), daughter of the battle painter Albrecht Adam (1786–1862). The marriage resulted in the son Ludwig von Langenmantel (1854–1922), a renowned painter who was born on the construction site of the Liberation Hall and was also trained at the Munich Art Academy.
