Ovid Charlebois
Ovid Charlebois (born February 12, 1862 in Oka , Canada , † November 20, 1933 in Le Pas ) was a Canadian religious of the Congregation of Oblate Missionaries , Roman Catholic Bishop and Vicar Apostolic of Keewatin .
Life
Ovid Charlebois was ordained a priest on July 17, 1887 . He dedicated his life to preaching the gospel to the indigenous people of Canada.
Pope Pius X appointed him on August 8, 1910 as the first Vicar Apostolic of Keewatin and titular bishop of Berenice . The Archbishop of Saint-Boniface , Louis-Philippe Adélard Langevin OMI, ordained him episcopal on November 30 of the same year . Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Joliette , Joseph Alfred Archambault , and the Bishop of Saint-Hyacinthe , Alexis-Xyste Bernard . The inauguration in Keewatin took place on March 7, 1911.
In the beatification process initiated for him, Pope Francis awarded him the heroic degree of virtue on November 28, 2019 .
