The Pécsi Mecsek FC , also Pécsi MFC , or PMFC for short , is a football club from the southwestern central town of Pécs and owes its name to the nearby Mecsek mountain range . After a forced relegation from the first division of Hungary and a crash into the fourth class division Baranya, the club now plays in the third division.
history
The association was founded in 1950 as Pécsi Dózsa (named after the peasant leader György Dózsa ). The club colors are red and black. The PMFC team plays their home games in the Mecsekaljai Stadium, which has a capacity of around 14,000.
Pécs lost to Ferencváros Budapest 2: 4 in 1978 when they made their first appearance in the Hungarian Cup final after extra time . In the second participation in the cup final in 1987, the PMFC had no success and lost to Újpesti Dózsa 2: 3. Only in the third attempt in 1990 did Pécs secure their only title to date with a 2-0 victory over Honvéd Budapest . In between, the PMFC 1986 achieved a remarkable second place in the first division and thus the runner-up.
At the end of the 2006/07 season, the Pécsi MFC rose after a total of 44 first division seasons from the Nemzeti Bajnokság I , but managed to get up again immediately. In 2015, the club had to relegate to the fourth division because of a license withdrawal.
