Péter Bakonyi (born February 17, 1938 in Budapest ) is a former Hungarian saber fencer .

successes

Péter Bakonyi was world champion with the team in Moscow in 1966 . In 1962 in Buenos Aires , 1967 in Montreal and 1971 in Vienna , he took second place with her, in 1961 in Turin , 1963 in Gdansk and 1969 in Havana in third place. In Havana, he also reached his only World Cup podium in individual when he reached third place. He took part in the Olympic Games three times : in 1964 he finished the individual competition in Tokyo in ninth place, while he was fifth with the team. Four years later he finished 13th in the individual in Mexico City . In the team competition he reached the final round and prevailed in the battle for third place against France with 9: 5. Together with János Kalmár , Tamás Kovács , Miklós Meszéna and Tibor Pézsa , he received the bronze medal. At the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich , Bakonyi once again entered the battle for third place with the Hungarian team and, thanks to an 8: 7 win over Romania, with Pál Gerevich , Tamás Kovács, Péter Marót and Tibor Pézsa, won another bronze medal. Bakonyi was three times Hungarian team champion.
