Tamás Kovács (born March 20, 1943 in Budapest ) is a former Hungarian saber fencer .

successes

Tamás Kovács was world champion with the team in Moscow in 1966 and in Gothenburg in 1973 . In 1967 in Montreal , 1970 in Ankara , 1971 in Vienna and 1975 in Budapest , he took second place with her, in 1969 in Havana and in 1977 in Buenos Aires third. He took part in the Olympic Games three times : in 1968 he finished ninth in the singles in Mexico City . In the team competition he reached the final round and prevailed in the battle for third place against France with 9: 5. Together with János Kalmár , Péter Bakonyi , Miklós Meszéna and Tibor Pézsa he received the bronze medal. At the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich , Kovács again entered the battle for third place with the Hungarian team and, thanks to an 8: 7 win over Romania with Pál Gerevich , Péter Bakonyi, Péter Marót and Tibor Pézsa, won another bronze medal. In the singles he was sixth. In 1976 he finished the individual competition in Montreal from 17th place, while he just missed another medal win with the team in fourth.

His father Pál Kovács was six times Olympic fencing champion and his brother Attila Kovács was also an Olympic fencer.
