The Poima ( Russian Пойма ) is a left tributary of the Birjussa in the Irkutsk Oblast and in the Krasnoyarsk Region in southern Siberia .

The Poima rises in the northern foothills of the Eastern Sayan about 50 km south-southeast of Nizhny Ingash near the border between the Krasnoyarsk region and the Irkutsk region. Initially the Poima flows in a north-westerly direction. The R255 trunk road and the Trans-Siberian Railway cross the river about 3 km southeast of Nizhny Ingasch . The Novaya Poima runoff level is also located there . The Poima then turns to the northeast and later to the north. Finally it flows into the Birjussa 5 km south of Novobirjussinski . The Poima is located in the catchment area of the Angara and the Yenisei . The river has a length of 382 km. It drains an area of 8,640 km². The mean discharge is 205 km above the mouth at 13 m³ / s. The snowmelt dominates the annual runoff of the Poima. In spring, between April and June, the Poima usually has floods . The river freezes in late October / early November and remains ice-covered until late April / early May. In the middle reaches the Poima has numerous narrow river loops .
