Franz Pönninger
Franz Xaver Pönninger (born December 29, 1832 in Vienna ; † August 6, 1906 there ) was an important Austrian sculptor and medalist of the 19th century .
Life
Franz Pönninger was born as the son of the coin engraver Johannes Pönninger . He was a student of the sculptor Anton Dominik Fernkorn , from whom he took over the management of the kuk art foundry in Vienna (1866 to 1896). Pönniger was a professor and imperial councilor. His works include the life-size portrait statue of Archduke Karl von Österreich-Teschen , which he made in 1871 for the Feldherrenhalle of the Austro-Hungarian Arms Museum (now the Army History Museum ), which was completed in 1856 .
He rests in a grave of honor in the Vienna Central Cemetery (group 0, row 1, number 48).
In 1927, the Pönningerweg in Vienna- Ottakring (16th district) was named after him.
