p -toluenesulfonamide , also p -toluenesulfonamide, is a chemical compound from the group of sulfonamides .

Extraction and presentation

p -toluenesulfonamide can be obtained by amination of p -toluenesulfonyl chloride with ammonia :

p-Toluenesulfonamide synthesis

Worldwide production was around 1000 tons in 1991.

properties

p -Toluenesulfonamide is a flammable, crystalline, colorless, almost odorless solid that is sparingly soluble in water.

use

p -Toluenesulfonamide is used as an intermediate in organic syntheses, for example as a nucleophile during vinyl aziridine opening reactions and as a reagent in the selective aziridination of olefins . It is also used as a plasticizer for hot melt glue (as a mixture with the o -isomer), fluorescent pigments, for dyes and pigments. It is also used as a binder in the production of resins belonging to the aminoplast group.
