Five-coupled tank locomotives of the Royal Saxon State Railways for freight train service were designated as class XI T. The Deutsche Reichsbahn classified the locomotives in the class 94 19-21 from 1925 .

history

In the course of Germany's reparations payments after the First World War , twelve copies went to the then French state railway ETAT and one to the French Northern Railway; another three locomotives were already lost in the First World War.

The Deutsche Reichsbahn classified the lighter machines of the second series in the class 94 19 , while the heavier machines were classified as class 94 20-21 . The machines of the lighter design were taken out of service as early as 1936.

All the machines that remained in Germany after the Second World War came to the Deutsche Reichsbahn (DR). The DR also received back two machines that had remained abroad after the First World War and classified them under the numbers 94 2151 and 94 2152. The last machines were used until the second half of the 1970s. The last operational area of the locomotives that remained with the Deutsche Reichsbahn was the steep line from Eibenstock lower station to Eibenstock upper station , which was closed in autumn 1975 .

The non-operational 94 2110 reached Austria via Czechoslovakia and Hungary after the Second World War . It was classified by the ÖBB as 794.2110, but was removed from the ÖBB already in 1953 without ever being used. Some of the locomotives that remained in Czechoslovakia after the war were still in use for a while. The 94 2021 even received the ČSD number 516.0500 and was not retired until 1952. In Poland at PKP six machines remained as series TKW3 , the last of which was retired 1976th

The last remaining locomotive of this series - the 94 2105 - is now in the railway museum in Schwarzenberg / Erzgeb after a downright adventurous rescue in 1977/78 via the industrial railway in the north of Dresden and various other stations . .

technical features

The machines of the second delivery were lighter due to a shortened boiler and a reduction in stocks, so that they could also travel on secondary lines with a weaker superstructure.

From company number 2094 (construction lot 1921) the locomotives had air brakes ex works, from company number 2112 (construction lot 1923) the machines were equipped with Knorr-type surface preheaters on the long boiler apex behind the chimney. The vehicles previously delivered were all retrofitted with compressed air brakes and mostly also with surface preheaters (series from 1908/09 only rarely with preheater, but then also on the side next to the chimney).
