The Pais Arena Jerusalem ( Hebrew פיס ארנה ירושלים, Pais Arena Yerushalayim) is a multifunctional arena in the south-western Malcha district of the Israeli city ​​of Jerusalem . The event hall is the largest of its kind in the Middle East . The basketball club Hapoel Jerusalem from the Ligat ha'Al plays its home games here. Hapoel's basketball team was previously based in the Malha Arena, which opened in 1985 and has 3,000 seats.

history

The hall, inaugurated in September 2014 by Jerusalem's mayor Nir Barkat , with costs of around NIS 400 million , was financed by a joint venture between the city and the state lottery company Mifal HaPais . Mifal HaPais assumed two thirds of the construction costs. There are 11,000 seats for basketball games. A maximum of 15,000 seats are available for concerts. A total of 25,000 m 3 of concrete and 3,000  t of steel were used during the construction  . The hall covers an area of 47,000 m 2 and has 16 VIP - boxes . The facilities also include an ice rink and a sports medicine center . 1,700 parking spaces are available around the hall. The venue is part of the city's sports complex with an Olympic-size sports pool , tennis facility , bowling alley and an ice rink . The Pais Arena is located in the immediate vicinity of the Teddy Stadium , the city's soccer stadium .

The Pais Arena Jerusalem is around 1.5 km from Jerusalem-Malcha Train Station.
