Palais Merbl

The Palais Merbl ( Romanian Palatul Merbl ), also Merbl Castle or Merbl Palace , is a listed three-story building on the Piața Victoriei in the western Romanian city ​​of Timișoara .

history

The Palais Merbl was built in 1911 according to the plans of the architect Arnold Merbl in an eclectic style with elements of Baroque and Art Nouveau ( Vienna Secession ). In addition to the Palais Lloyd , Merbl was also significantly involved in the establishment of the Piarist Church and the Piarist High School from 1904–1908. With his company Arnold Merbl and Co. was also known outside of Timisoara.

The three-story building has a corner tower facing the side street. The Librăria Mihai Eminescu ( German  Mihai Eminescu library ) and a branch of the Romanian Development Bank are located on the ground floor of the building .
