Palouse is a city with status City in Whitman County in the US state of Washington . As of the 2010 United States Census , Palouse had 998 residents. The Palouse is the name of the agricultural region in which the city is located. The city was officially recognized in 1888.
history
Palouse was first settled by whites in 1869 by William Ewing. The location was established in 1875 by WP Breeding.

2010 Census
As of the 2010 census , Palouse had 998 residents, 429 households, and 291 families. The population density was 356.8 per km ². There were 474 housing units at an average density of 169.5 per km².
The population consisted of 94.4% whites , 1.3% Indians , 0.9% Asians , 0.4% of other "races" and 3% of two or more "races" . Hispanics or Latinos of "any race" made up 2.4% of the population.
Of the 429 households, 29.4% had children under the age of 18, 57.6% were run by married couples living together , 7.2% by single mothers and 3% by single fathers; 32.2% were non-families. 27.5% of the households were singles and 10.3% were single people over 65 years of age. The average household size was 2.29 and the average family size was 2.79 people.
The median age in the city was 43.8 years. 21.4% of the population were under 18, 4.9% between 18 and 24, 26.2% between 25 and 44, 32.9% between 45 and 64 and 14.4 65 years or older. 49.5% of the population were men and 50.5% women.
Census 2000
As of the 2000 census , Palouse had 1,011 residents, 432 households, and 288 families. The population density was 364.8 per km ². There were 471 housing units at an average density of 170 per km².
The population consisted of 95.94% whites , 0.99% Indians , 0.3% Asians , 0.99% other "races" and 1.78% of two or more "races" . Hispanics or Latinos of "any race" made up 1.68% of the population.
Of the 432 households, 31.5% had children under the age of 18, 53% were run by married couples living together, and 10.9% by single mothers; 33.3% were non-families. 28.9% of the households were singles and 10.9% were single people over 65 years of age. The average household size was 2.34 and the average family size was 2.88 people.
The median age in the city was 38 years. 26.9% of the population were under 18, 5.7% between 18 and 24, 30.4% between 25 and 44, 23.9% between 45 and 64 and 13.1 65 years or older. There were 94 men for every 100 women, and 93 men for every 100 women for over 18-year-olds.
All information on median income relates to the median. The median household income was US $ 34,583 and that of families was US $ 41,125. Men had a median income of US $ 30,804 versus US $ 25,515 for women. The per capita income was US $ 15,754. About 8.6% of families and 9.5% of the total population lived below the poverty line ; this affected 9.2% of those under 18 and 18.7% of those over 65.
