Pamela S. Soltis

Pamela Sue Soltis (* as Pamela Sagraves November 13, 1957 in Nelsonville, Ohio ) is an American botanist and evolutionary biologist. Your official botanical author abbreviation is " PSSoltis ".

Soltis was 1976 Valedictorian (top of his class, the closing speech held) on its High School (Pella High School in Iowa), studied biology at Central College in Iowa (bachelor's degree in 1980 summa cum laude ) and at the University of Kansas at which she received her master's degree in botany in 1984 and her PhD in 1986. From 1986 she was Assistant Professor, 1992 Associate Professor and 1998 Professor at Washington State University . She has been a curator at the Florida Museum of Natural History since 2000 and research professor at the University of Florida since 2006 (Distinguished Professor since 2007).

It deals with mechanisms of speciation , phylogeny of angiosperms (angiosperms) and land plants, evolution of characteristics such as flowers, evolutionary role of polyploidy , genetic issues of conservation in conservation, biogeography . She is in the Angiosperm Phylogeny Group .

In 2016 she received the Darwin Wallace Medal with her husband Douglas E. Soltis , with whom she also works a lot, and both received the Merit Award of the Botanical Society of America in 2010. In 2016 she became a member of the National Academy of Sciences and in 2017 of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences . In 2007-08 she was President of the Botanical Society of America and she was President of the Society of Systematic Biologists. In 2002 she received the Dahlgren Prize of the Royal Physiographical Society in Lund and in 2006 the Asa Gray Award with Douglas Soltis . She received the Botanical Society of America's Centennial Award and the Stebbins Award.
