The Pampa was the only ship built in Rostock by the Hamburg shipping company F. Laeisz and at the same time the last full ship built for this shipping company, which then only commissioned four-masted barques . The steel ship was launched in 1891 and made numerous voyages with bulk cargo between Europe and the American west coast until 1913, v. a. Chile , as well as Australia . She was considered the fastest ship from Laeisz and made numerous trips to Chile in less than 70 days.
In 1896, under Captain JC Steincke, she made the voyage from Lizard Point at the exit of the English Channel to the Equator in 15 days, making it the third ship to complete the route in this time. In 1905 she covered the route from the canal to Valparaíso under Captain W. Schröder in 58 days. Only two ships were faster, the British four-masted barque Eudora (1903/04) and the German five-masted full-rigged ship Prussia (1903).
On May 2, 1913, the Pampa was sold to the Finnish shipping company AB Aura (founded by Johan (John) Arthur Tengström, 1862-1934) and given the name Aura . On April 14, 1922, she was dismasted in the Isles of Scilly , towed by the British ship Tuscarora to Plymouth , sold by the salvage company for 1500 pounds sterling back to the owners and sold by them for scrapping to Sunderland .
