etymology
The name of the village comes from "Ban" and "Joba". In Avar a “bajan” was a prince, duke or leader of an army. "Joba" is a very common personal name.
history
Paniova is the oldest place in the area. It is said to have existed as early as the Avar period in the 8th century. At that time it was inhabited by Serbs . Later Romanian families joined them. There was written evidence that the place existed as early as 1711. On the Josephine land survey of 1717, Bangeva was registered with 20 houses and belonged to the Făget district .
The landlord Csernovics sold part of the property to the Timisoara bank. This parceled out the land and sold it in 1896 to 90 German families from the surrounding Banat villages. In the course of the following 10 years, the German district of Paniova was created. Three main streets and five cross streets were newly laid out.
In the interwar period Paniova belonged to the Timiș County - Torontal , Recaş District . Since 1914 the place belongs to the municipality Ghizela. After the Banat was divided into three on June 4, 1920 as a result of the Treaty of Trianon , Paniova fell to the Kingdom of Romania .
