Parallel Worlds is a Spanish science fiction - drama from the year 2018, which under the direction of Oriol Paulo emerged and the so-called Butterfly Effect theme: Because they save a boy in the past life changed for the nurse Vera's own present . After Warner Bros. released the film in Spain in November 2018, the film was released internationally on March 22, 2019 on the streaming service Netflix .

1989: Twelve-year-old Nico Lasarte observes through the window of his children's room how his neighbors in the house are arguing violently. Curious and worried, he secretly enters the neighbors' house and finds Hilda Weiss dead on the ground floor. Suddenly her husband Ángel Prieto comes down the stairs with a bloody knife, whereupon Nico runs outside and is run over by a car.
Exactly 25 years later, surgery assistant Vera Roy and banker David Ortiz have recently been living with their daughter Gloria in the house where Nico Lasarte once lived. One evening they are looking at old videotapes of his that they accidentally found in a closet. Suddenly, for no apparent reason, TV news about the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 is on TV, although there is no longer a video cassette in the camera. The three of them can't find an explanation for this, but don't care. When Vera Roy was unable to sleep the following night, the tape played again for no apparent reason, but now she was able to communicate with the twelve-year-old via the camera and television in an inexplicable way for both of them and warns him not to enter the neighbors' house otherwise he will die. Nico is therefore not run over.
When Vera wakes up the next morning, her world has completely changed: She is now chief physician for neurosurgery, her husband David denies that they are married and their daughter Gloria does not exist. She then goes to the police, where Inspector Leyra takes care of the case.
In order to be able to re-establish contact with the past with the video camera and television, Vera breaks into her former house, in which David now lives with Úrsula. Vera is caught and David calls the police. Vera managed to escape, however.
In the meantime, Nico becomes suspicious of his neighbors in the past and breaks into their house. When Prieto unexpectedly comes home, Nico hides in the bedroom and watches how Ángel Prieto cuts his dead wife into pieces with a saw and puts them in two suitcases.
Vera continues to try to change the past as it was before and seeks out a professor who tells her that this is only possible if it happens during the thunderstorm and with exactly the same means as then. To do this, however, she has to find the television and video camera.
Inspector Leyra wants evidence that Prieto killed his wife and Vera is able to locate the suitcase that contains the remains of Hilda Weiss. Now Vera is considered the main suspect. The inspector helps her to escape and gives her the address of a hotel and a hotel room number.
There she catches David cheating on his current wife with her colleague Mónica. Vera also sees a matchbox from the hotel on the table, which David threw out the window the night before in her old life. Vera uses the fact that David is cheating on his wife as leverage and forces David to give her access to data about Nico's current whereabouts through the database of his bank.
At the same time, Ángel Prieto and two other suspects are interrogated and the events of the night his former wife died are uncovered: his wife came home earlier that night and saw him cheating on her with another woman. As a result, out of jealousy, she tried to kill Ángel with a knife. There was a tussle among the three and as a result Angel's affair stabbed his wife with a knife and pushed her over the banister down to the ground floor.
Inspector Leyra also tells how the young Nico Lasarte spent his life looking for “the woman from the future” and that he himself was this boy. Now he's married to her.
When they meet again, Vera feels her past life with Nico and the love and bond between them for the first time. Nevertheless, she finally throws herself off the roof and dies.
Leyra then makes contact with his younger self in the past and thereby changes what has happened again: Vera wakes up the next morning with David in her bed. Her daughter Gloria is back too. Vera looks for the matchbox in the garden as proof that David is unfaithful to her in this life too.
She shows the police the suitcases in which Hilda Weiss' remains are and meets Inspector Leyra, who does not know her. Vera then tells him that they know each other, but that he just can't remember them yet.
