Park Ji-min ( Korean : 박지민 ; born October 13, 1995 in Busan ), better known by his first name Jimin , is a South Korean singer , songwriter and dancer . He is a member of the boy band BTS , with which he made his debut in June 2013.

life and career

Childhood and early adolescence

Park Ji-min (Korean: 박지민) was born on October 13, 1995 in the Geumjeong neighborhood of Busan, South Korea. He has a brother who is two years his junior. As a child, he attended Busans Hodong Elementary School and Yonsan Secondary School. During secondary school he attended the Just Dance Academy and learned to dance popping and locking . Before becoming an intern, Jimin studied contemporary dance and ballet at Busan High School of Arts, where she was one of the top students in the contemporary dance department. After a teacher suggested that he apply to an entertainment agency, it led him to Big Hit Entertainment . After passing the auditions in 2012, he moved to Korean Arts High School, where he graduated in 2014.

Jimin is currently enrolled at Global Cyber ​​University.

Since 2013: BTS

In June 2013, Jimin made his debut as a singer and member of the band BTS with the release of the single No More Dream . In the group, Jimin has the position of lead singer and lead dancer. He has released three solo tracks under BTS so far: Lie , Serendipity and Filter . The song Lie was released in 2016 on the album Wings . It has been described as stunning and dramatic, and implicitly conveys dark undertones and emotions that reflect the overall concept of the album. In contrast, Serendipity from the album Love Yourself , released in 2017, was : Her soft and sensual and deals with the joy, conviction and curiosity of love. Jimin's song Promise (2018) was Soundcloud's biggest 24-hour debut of all time, beating Drake's Duppy Freestyle record, according to SoundCloud .

In 2018 he was awarded the Hwagwan Order for Cultural Merit of the fifth rank by the incumbent South Korean President Moon Jae-in along with other members of the band.

Solo activities

In 2014, Jimin collaborated with bandmate Jungkook on the song Christmas Day , a Korean version of Justin Bieber's Mistletoe , whose Korean lyrics were written by Jimin. Jimin later collaborated with Jungkook again by releasing a cover of We Don't Talk Anymore , originally released by Charlie Puth and Selena Gomez on June 2, 2017.

Jimin began participating in a variety of Korean television shows such as Hallo Counselor , Please take care of my refrigerator, and God's Workplace in 2016 . In the same year he started as a presenter on shows like Show! Music Core and M Countdown . In December he presented a dance-enriched duet with Taemin from Shinee at the KBS Song Festival .

Jimin released his first solo song outside of BTS releases Promise for free on BTS SoundCloud on December 30, 2018 . The song has been described by Billboard as a "gentle pop ballad". The song was composed by Jimin and Big Hit Entertainment producer Slow Rabbit, the latter also producing the track. Promise contains lyrics written by his BTS colleague RM as well as cover artwork photographed by his bandmate V.

From 2016 to 2018, Jimin supported graduates from Busan Hodong Elementary School, his alma mater , by paying for their uniforms. When it was announced that the school was going to close, he donated summer and winter secondary school uniforms to graduating students and gifted signed albums to all students. In early 2019, Jimin donated Korean won 100 million (around $ 88,000) to the Busan Ministry of Education to help lower-income students. Of the total, £ 30 million (about $ 23,000) went to Busan Arts High School, also Jimin's alma mater.
