The Socabaya District is located in the Arequipa Province of Arequipa region in southwestern Peru . The district has an area of 18.64 km². At the 2017 census, there were 75,351 residents in the district. In 1993 the population was 38,288, in 2007 it was 59,671. The district goes back to a foundation in the 16th century. The administrative seat of the district is San Fernando del Valle de Socabaya . The Socabaya district is part of the metropolitan area of the provincial and regional capital Arequipa and is 7.7 km south of the city center.
Geographical location
The Socabaya district is centrally located in the Arequipa province at an altitude of about 2300 m . The district has a maximum length in north-south direction of 6.7 km and a width of about 3.8 km. The river Río Socabaya flows through the district in a westerly direction, the Río Yarabamba runs along the southern district boundary, also to the west. The Arequipa Golf Club is located in the east of the district.
The Socabaya district is bordered to the north by the district José Bustamante y Rivero , on the east by the districts Sabandía , Characato and Mollebaya , the south by the district Yarabamba and the west by the district Jacobo Hunter .
