The Yarabamba district is located in the Arequipa Province of Arequipa region in southwestern Peru . The district was established on January 25, 1943. It has an area of ​​492.2 km². At the 2017 census, there were 1,314 residents in the district. In 1993 the population was 951, in 2007 it was 1027. The district administration is located in the 2460  m high village of Yarabamba with 229 inhabitants (as of 2017). Yarabamba is located about 18 km south-southeast of the city center of the provincial and regional capital Arequipa . The district of Yarabamba, together with the neighboring districts of Characato , Sabandía , Mollebaya , Quequeña , Pocsi and Polobaya, forms the Mancomunidad de la Cuenca Sur Oriental , an amalgamation of the districts in the southeast of the Arequipa province.

Geographical location

The Yarabamba district is located in the central south of the Arequipa province. It extends over the coastal highlands. Irrigated agriculture is practiced on the Río Yarabamba, where the district capital is located. Otherwise there is desert vegetation.

The district of Yarabamba borders in the west on the district La Joya , in the northwest on the district Uchumayo , in the north on the districts Tiabaya , Jacobo Hunter , Socabaya , Mollebaya and Quequeña, in the east on the district Polobaya and in the south on the district Cocachacra (in the province of Islay ).
