The José Luis Bustamante y Rivero district is located in the Arequipa Province of Arequipa region in southwestern Peru . The district has an area of ​​10.83 km². In the 2017 census, 81,829 people lived in the district. Ten years earlier the population was 76,410. The district was formed on May 23, 1995 from the western part of the Paucarpata district. The district was named after the Peruvian politician and president José Luis Bustamante y Rivero (1894-1989). The district and the city of Ciudad Satélite are congruent. The José Luis Bustamante y Rivero district is part of the metropolitan area of ​​the provincial and regional capital Arequipa and is 3.4 km south-southeast of the city center.

Geographical location

The José Luis Bustamante y Rivero district is centrally located in the Arequipa province at an altitude of 2310  m . The district has a lengthwise extension in NNW-SSE direction of 4.8 km and a width of about 2.4 km. The Socabaya River flows west along the southern district boundary.

The José Luis Bustamante y Rivero district is bordered by the Arequipa district to the north, the Paucarpata district to the east, the Sabandía district to the south and the Socabaya and Jacobo Hunter districts to the west .
