The Tiabaya district is located in the Arequipa Province of Arequipa region in southwestern Peru . The district has an area of ​​31.62 km². At the 2017 census, there were 16,191 residents in the district. In 1993 the population was 13,462, in 2007 14,677. The district administration is located in the 2178  m high city of Tiabaya with 10,870 inhabitants (as of 2017). This is located on the southwest edge of the metropolitan area of ​​the provincial and regional capital Arequipa and is 8 km from the city center.

Geographical location

The district of Tiabaya is located in the southwestern center of the province of Arequipa at an altitude of 2240  m . The district has a lengthwise extension in north-south direction of 5.4 km. The Río Chili crosses the district to the west. The national road 34A ( Interoceánica Sur ) forms the northern boundary of the district. In the district there are mainly irrigated agricultural areas. There are also settlement areas. South of the Río Chili there is a barren ridge where mining is carried out.

The district of Tiabaya borders in the west on the district Uchumayo , in the extreme north on the district Cerro Colorado , in the northeast on the district Sachaca , in the east on the district Jacobo Hunter and in the south on the district Yarabamba .
