The Uchumayo district is located in the Arequipa Province in the Arequipa region in southwestern Peru . The district has an area of ​​270 km². The 2017 census counted 15,391 residents. In 1993 the population was 7458, in 2007 it was 10,672. The district administration is located in the 1950  m high village of Uchumayo with 1330 inhabitants (as of 2017). Uchumayo is located about 15 km west-southwest of the provincial and regional capital Arequipa .

Geographical location

The Uchumayo District is centrally located in the Arequipa Province. The Río Chili , the upper reaches of the Río Quilca , crosses the north of the district in a westerly direction. The extreme northeast of the district is on the edge of the metropolitan area of ​​Arequipa. Desert vegetation dominates in the south of the district.

The district of Uchumayo borders in the west on the district La Joya , in the extreme northwest on the district Vítor , in the north on the district Yura , in the northeast on the district Cerro Colorado , in the east on the district Tiabaya and in the south on the district Yarabamba .
