The Uchumayo district is located in the Arequipa Province in the Arequipa region in southwestern Peru . The district has an area of 270 km². The 2017 census counted 15,391 residents. In 1993 the population was 7458, in 2007 it was 10,672. The district administration is located in the 1950 m high village of Uchumayo with 1330 inhabitants (as of 2017). Uchumayo is located about 15 km west-southwest of the provincial and regional capital Arequipa .
Geographical location
The Uchumayo District is centrally located in the Arequipa Province. The Río Chili , the upper reaches of the Río Quilca , crosses the north of the district in a westerly direction. The extreme northeast of the district is on the edge of the metropolitan area of Arequipa. Desert vegetation dominates in the south of the district.
The district of Uchumayo borders in the west on the district La Joya , in the extreme northwest on the district Vítor , in the north on the district Yura , in the northeast on the district Cerro Colorado , in the east on the district Tiabaya and in the south on the district Yarabamba .
