Piorunkowice ( German Schweinsdorf ) is a place in Gmina Prudnik in Powiat Prudnicki in the Polish Opole Voivodeship .

Geographical location
The street village of Piorunkowice is located in the south of the historical region of Upper Silesia . The place is about twelve kilometers northwest of the municipal seat and the district town Prudnik and about 52 kilometers southwest of the voivodeship capital Opole .
Piorunkowice lies in the Nizina Śląska (Silesian Plain) within the Płaskowyż Głubczycki (Leobschützer Loesshügelland) . The state road Droga krajowa 41 runs through the village . Piorunkowice is located on the right bank of the Steinau ( Ścinawa Niemodlińska ).

history
Schweinsdorf was created in the first half of the 13th century and settled with German colonists. The place was first mentioned in 1300. In the Middle Ages there was a castle in the place.
After the First Silesian War in 1742, Schweinsdorf and most of Silesia came to Prussia .
After the reorganization of the province of Silesia , the rural community of Schweinsdorf belonged to the district of Neustadt OS in the administrative district of Opole from 1816 . In 1845 there was a castle, a farm, a water mill, a customs house and 74 other houses in the village. In the same year 399 people lived in Schweinsdorf, one of them Protestant. In 1855, 443 people lived in Schweinsdorf. In 1865 there were 8 farmers, 24 gardeners and 24 cottagers as well as a mill, an inn, a Catholic school and a chapel. The Catholic school was attended by 82 students in the same year. The Catholic faithful were parish in Steinau. In 1874 the district of Schweinsdorf was founded, which consisted of the rural communities of Schweinsdorf, Steinau Dorf and Steinau Städtel and the Schweinsdorf estate. The first head of office was the manor owner and first lieutenant Theodor Stöbe. In 1885 Schweinsdorf had 394 inhabitants.
In 1933 there were 301 people in Schweinsdorf and 273 in 1939. Until 1945 the place was in the district of Neustadt OS
In 1945 the previously German town of Schweinsdorf came under Polish administration and was renamed Piorunkowice and joined the Silesian Voivodeship. In 1950 the place came to the Opole Voivodeship . In 1999 the place came to the powiat Prudnicki .
Attractions
- The Schweinsdorf Castle (Pol. Pałac w Piorunkowicach ) was built in the 17th and 18th centuries. A castle already existed on the same site in the 15th century. In 1820 the building was rebuilt. The single-storey building was built in the classical style. It has a crooked roof with numerous dormers. On the north side there is a tower with a half-timbered floor and an onion dome. The interior is no longer preserved today. The building fell into ruin due to a lack of renovation. The building has been a listed building since 1964.
- The adjacent castle park was laid out in the 18th century. This has been a listed building since 1989.
