Wierzbiec (German Wackenau , 1945-1947 Florianów ) is a place in the Gmina Prudnik in the powiat Prudnicki in the Polish Opole Voivodeship .

Geographical location
The street village of Wierzbiec is located in the south of the historical region of Upper Silesia . The place is located about eight kilometers west of the municipal seat and the district town Prudnik and about 58 kilometers southwest of the voivodeship capital Opole .
Wierzbiec lies in the Nizina Śląska (Silesian Plain) within the Płaskowyż Głubczycki (Leobschützer Loesshügelland) . The place lies on the Prudnik , a left tributary of the Osobłoga ( Hotzenplotz ). The state road Droga krajowa 40 runs through the village .

history
The village was first mentioned in 1670 and then belonged to the Mettich family.
After the First Silesian War in 1742, Wackenau came with most of Silesia to Prussia .
After the reorganization of the province of Silesia , the rural community of Wackenau belonged to the district of Neustadt OS in the administrative district of Opole from 1816 . In 1845 there was a farm, an inn and 72 other houses in the village. In the same year, 500 people lived in Wackenau, 17 of them Protestants. In 1855 512 people lived in Wackenau. In 1865 the place had eleven farm and 56 cottage jobs. The residents of Schnellewalde were trained and parish. In 1874 the administrative district of Schnellewalde was founded, which consisted of the rural communities of Schnellewalde and Wackenau and the manor district of Wackenau. In 1876 the railway line between Neustadt and Neisse was opened north of the village. This gave Wackenau a connection to the railway network of the Upper Silesian Railway. In 1885 Wackenau had 348 inhabitants.
In the referendum in Upper Silesia on March 20, 1921, Schnellewalde was outside the voting area. In 1933 400 people lived in the village. In 1939 the place had 373 inhabitants. Until 1945 the place was in the district of Neustadt OS
In mid-March the population fled from the advancing Red Army. In mid-March, the town was then taken by Soviet soldiers. Numerous houses in the village were destroyed by arson. The place came under Polish administration after the end of the war, was initially renamed Florianów and joined the Silesian Voivodeship. In June 1945 Poles from the east were settled here. In 1947 the place name was changed to Wierzbiec . In 1950 the place came to the Opole Voivodeship . Since 1999 the place belongs to the powiat Prudnicki .
