The Cayma district is located in the Arequipa Province of Arequipa region in southwestern Peru . The district was founded on November 12, 1823. It has an area of ​​246.31 km². At the 2017 census, 91,935 people lived in the district. In 1993 the population was 47,257, in 2007 74,776. The district administration is located in the extreme south of the city of Cayma at an altitude of 2403  m . This is part of the metropolitan area of ​​the provincial and regional capital Arequipa and is located 2.1 km north-northwest of the city center.

Geographical location

The Cayma District is located in the northern center of Arequipa Province. The Río Chili flows through the northeastern part of the district and then forms the eastern district boundary. The northern slope of the 5822  m high Misti volcano and the western bank of the Aguada Blanca dam are in the northeast of the district. In the north rises the 6057  m high volcano Chachani .

The Cayma district is bordered by the Yura district in the north and the San Juan de Tarucani , Alto Selva Alegre and Yanahuara districts in the east . To the west is the Cerro Colorado district .
