The Cerro Colorado District is located in the Arequipa Province of Arequipa region in southwestern Peru . The district was established on February 26, 1954. It has an area of 174.9 km². In the 2017 census, 197,954 people lived in the district. In 1993 the population was 61,865, in 2007 113,171. The district administration is located in the city of La Libertad in the extreme south-east at an altitude of 2400 m . This is part of the metropolitan area of the provincial and regional capital Arequipa and is 3.6 km northwest of the city center. In the north of the district is Arequipa Airport (Aeropuerto Internacional Alfredo Rodríguez Ballón). Some irrigated agriculture is practiced in the southwest of the district.
Geographical location
The Cerro Colorado district is located in the north-western center of the Arequipa Province. It has a longitudinal extent in SSW-NNE-direction of 25 km. In the north rises the 6057 m high volcano Chachani . The district extends between the rivers of Río Chili in the east and its tributary Río Los Andenes in the west.
The Cerro Colorado district is bordered to the west and north by the district Yura , on the east by the district Cayma and on the south by the districts of Yanahuara , Sachaca , Uchumayo and Tiabaya .
