The Mollebaya district is located in the Arequipa Province of Arequipa region in southwestern Peru . The district was established on May 27, 1952. It has an area of 26.7 km². At the 2017 census there were 4,756 inhabitants in the district. In 1993 the population was 778, in 2007 it was 1410. The district administration is located in the 2483 m high village of Mollebaya with 433 inhabitants (as of 2017). Mollebaya is located in the south-eastern outskirts of the metropolitan area of the provincial and regional capital Arequipa, about 12 km from the city center.
Geographical location
The Mollebaya district is centrally located in the Arequipa province. It extends over the western foothills of the Picchu Picchu volcano, 27 km further east .
The Mollebaya district is bordered to the north by the district Characato , on the east by the district Pocsi , the south by the district Quequeña , in the southwest of the district Yarabamba and the west by the District Socabaya .
