The Vítor district is located in the Arequipa Province of Arequipa region in southwestern Peru . The district was founded on January 2, 1857. It has an area of 1543.5 km². At the 2017 census, 3610 inhabitants lived in the district. In 1993 the population was 3238, in 2007 it was 2693. The district administration is located in the small town of Vítor with 1126 inhabitants on the Río Vítor (middle course of the Río Quilca / Río Chili) at an altitude of 1200 m (as of 2017). Vítor is located 43 km west-southwest of the city center of the provincial and regional capital Arequipa .
Geographical location
The district of Vítor is located in the central west of the province of Arequipa. It extends over the coastal highlands. The district consists mostly of desert. The Río Vítor crosses the district in a south-westerly direction. Irrigated agriculture is mainly practiced along the course of the Río Vítor. The national road 1S ( Panamericana ) from El Pedregal to La Joya runs through the district.
The district of Vítor borders in the west on the districts Santa Rita de Siguas and Santa Isabel de Siguas , in the extreme north on the district Huanca ( province Caylloma ), in the northeast on the district Yura , in the east on the districts Uchumayo , La Joya and Mollendo ( the latter in the province of Islay ) and in the south to the districts of Islay (province of Islay) and Quilca ( province of Camaná ).
