The Quequeña district is located in the Arequipa Province in the Arequipa region in southwestern Peru . The district was founded on January 2, 1857. It has an area of ​​34.9 km². The 2017 census counted 5043 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 904, in 2007 it was 1219. The district administration is located in the 2536  m high village of Quequeña with 260 inhabitants (as of 2017). Quequeña is about 20 km south-southeast of the provincial and regional capital Arequipa .

Geographical location

The Quequeña district is located in the central southeast of the Arequipa Province. It is located on the southeastern edge of the Arequipa metropolitan area. The Río Yarabamba flows along the southwestern district boundary. Irrigated agriculture takes place in the valleys.

The Quequeña district is bordered to the south and the southwest by the district Yarabamba , on the north by the district Mollebaya , in the northeast on the district Pocsi and the east by the district Polobaya .
