Partido Nuevo (officially: Partido Nuevo Contra la Corrupción, por la Honestidad y la Transparencia - New Party against Corruption, for Honesty and Transparency) is an Argentine regional party from the province of Cordoba .

The party was founded in 2003 and is ideologically inconsistent. It is the main player in the electoral alliances Alianza Frente Nuevo and Frente Cívico and part of the national alliance Frente Amplio Progresista .

history

The party was founded to provide the popular politician Luis Juez , who used to belong to the Partido Justicialista (PJ), a platform for the mayoral election in the city of Córdoba at the end of 2003 after he left the party in 2002 . He won the elections sovereignly with around 60% of the valid votes against the candidate of the PJ, Alfredo Keegan . After the election, which was combined with elections to the provincial and national parliaments, the Partido Nuevo initially established itself as the second strongest force in the province behind the PFY and also provided some members of the Argentine National Congress .

In 2007, in an electoral union with the Partido Socialista , the Frente Cívico , with its candidate Daniel Giacomino, the party again won the mayor's office in Cordoba. Luis Juez lost the gubernatorial election just 1.1 percent behind the candidate of the Partido Justicialista , Juan Schiaretti . Because of numerous irregularities, Juez challenged the election and was supported by numerous politicians at the state level, including a. Roberto Lavagna and the ARI party . However, the judiciary refused to re-examine the election results and confirmed Schiaretti's victory.

In the 2011 gubernatorial elections, Juez lost again as a candidate for the Partido Nuevo to the PJ, which José Manuel de la Sota had put up as a candidate, but the party remained just under the second strongest force in the provincial parliament. The mayor's office in the city of Córdoba was also lost; the PN candidate Esteban Dómina only got 7.77%.

Importance in the province of Cordoba

At the provincial level, the party has been the leading opposition party to the Partido Justicialista since 2003, on a par with the UCR. However, their importance is geographically very heterogeneous; it was the strongest force in the capital Cordoba itself and in most places in the metropolitan area , while in large parts of the interior it is only the third strongest force behind PJ and UCR. The party allied itself with parts of the UCR in 2007 in order to have a better chance of success in the provincial elections. However, this alliance was rejected by the vast majority of the UCR.

Nationwide importance

The party's activities at the national level are mixed. While it was allied with the government of Néstor Kirchner in the beginning , its leaders distanced themselves from the Argentine president from mid-2007 . In 2007 the party supported Elisa Carrió as a presidential candidate, in 2011 Hermes Binner .

Since 2007 the party has split into two wings; so the circle has to Daniel Giacomino the Front for Victory connected (Giacomino since 2011 MP for the alliance), while the original core to Luis Juez with the socialists and some other small parties to the center-left alliance Broad Progressive Front merged .
