Pasi Johan Olavi Nurminen (born December 17, 1975 in Lahti ) is a former Finnish ice hockey goalkeeper and current coach and official, who has been working as an assistant coach for the Pelicans Lahti in the Liiga since 2015 . He has also been a partner in the Pelicans operating company since 2005.

Career

Pasi Nurminen began his career as a hockey player in his hometown in the youth department of Reipas Lahti , for whose professional team he made his debut in a relegation game in the 1993/94 season . After he missed relegation with the team, the goalkeeper played in the following season in parallel for Reipas in the second-class I divisioona , as well as their U20 juniors. In the 1995/96 season the Finn was able to fight for a regular place at Ketterä Imatra and was also in the following two years after his return to Lahti for his home club in the second division between the posts. There he was able to convince, especially in his last season, with a goal average of just 1.65 in 30 games.

For the 1998/99 season Nurminen moved to HPK Hämeenlinna in the SM-liiga , where he was able to convince as well as in the following two years at Jokerit Helsinki . In the 1999/2000 season he had a goal conceded of 2.25 in the main round and played a big part in the success of his team and in the following playoffs he even managed to score 1.83 in eleven games and a catch rate of 94 .5 percent increase, with which he was a guarantee for reaching the championship final. For this reason he was appointed to the All-Star-Team of the SM-liiga and received, as the best goalkeeper in the league, the Urpo-Ylönen trophy .

In the 2001 NHL Entry Draft , the national goalkeeper was selected in the sixth round as a total of 189 players by the Atlanta Thrashers . In the 2001/02 season he played mostly for their farm team , the Chicago Wolves , in the American Hockey League and won the Calder Cup with his team . There he knew how to convince, especially in the final phase of the season and received the Jack A. Butterfield Trophy as Most Valuable Player of the Playoffs. From 2002 to 2004 Nurminen had a regular place in the NHL team of the Thrashers, before he returned for the 2004/05 season to the Pelicans Lahti, who had meanwhile been promoted back to the SM-liiga. His hometown club but he left in November 2004. and played until his forced by a serious knee injury End of career at the age of just 29 years after this season for the Malmo Redhawks in the Swedish Elitserien whose descent it but despite a Gegentorschnitts of 2 .08 could not avoid in the ten games of the Kvalserien .

For Finland , Nurminen took part in the 2000 , 2001 , 2003 and 2005 World Championships and the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City . He was also in his country's squad for the Euro Hockey Tour in 2005 .
