Paskuqan ( Albanian  also  Paskuqani ) is a suburb of the Albanian  capital Tirana . Until 2015 Paskuqan was the seat of an independent community ( komuna ) , today it belongs to the Bashkia  Kamza .

geography

landscape

Paskuqan is located north of the city center of Tirana, separated from the metropolis by the Tirana River  . While the south bank of the river is flat, the landscape north of the river rises slightly. A range of hills extends from the mountains in the east into the plain of Tirana. The range of hills running in the west to Kamza reaches heights between 133  m above sea level in the Paskuqan area . A.  and over 200  m above sea level. A.  (Kodër e Kuqe) .

Beyond the range of hills lies the Bathore plain , now a heavily populated area of Kamza. The Paskuqan water reservoir (Ujëmbledhës i Paskuqanit) , which was used to irrigate the agricultural areas around Kamza, was built in a hollow in the range of hills . It was fed with water from the Tirana, which was fed to the reservoir through a canal and a tunnel. This water pipe is no longer maintained today, which is why the water storage tank has lost a lot of volume.

There are plans to convert the (originally) 170 hectare lake into a 216 hectare park.

Former parish

The former municipality had 37,349 inhabitants in 2011. In addition to the main town, the villages of Babrru (Qendër) , Fushë e Kërçikëve (both east of the river), Kodër Babrru , Kodër e Kuqe , Paskuqan Kodër (all three on the hill), Paskuqan Fushë and Shpat belonged to the 11.3 square kilometer municipal area .

In 2001, Paskuqan was the most populous Komuna in Albania. In 2011 it was the second largest komuna in the country after Kashar , a suburb in the west of Tirana, and in 2011 it was one of the ten largest communities in Albania.

development

Despite its proximity to Tirana - just over two kilometers from the city center - Paskuqan has long been a very rural area. The river separated the community from the city - there were hardly any connections to the other world. Due to the rural exodus to the urban centers after the collapse of the communist regime  from the beginning of the 1990s and the ever increasing expansion of Tirana, the population in Paskuqan increased sharply. Paskuqan and Kamza are the municipalities in Albania that experienced the greatest population growth between 1989 and 2011, especially from north-eastern Bania. However, the connection to the city center remained poor, the community lacked the necessary infrastructure for such a large population. In general, the region is characterized by illegal building and unplanned development.

The Tirana River is barely accessible and heavily polluted. However, there are plans by the Bashkia Tirana to turn the neglected and rubbish area by the river - like the lake - into a long park. Other plans include building the northern part of the new Tirana bypass on both sides of the river. In addition to this high-performance road, Paskuqan is to be better developed through further new roads ( Boulevardi i ri as an extension of the north-south axis from Bulevardi Zogu i Parë and Bulevardi Dëshmorët e Kombit ) and expanded bridges.
