Lututów ( German Lututow ) is a city in the powiat Wieruszowski of the Łódź Voivodeship in Poland . It is the seat of the town-and-country municipality of the same name with 4588 inhabitants (as of June 30, 2019).

geography

The city has an area of nearly 19 square kilometers. Districts are Dębina, Jesionki, Jeżopole, Młynek, Piaski, Zygmuntów and Żmuda. Neighboring towns are Popielina, Kopaniny and Niemojew in the north, Dymki in the east, Dobrosław, Łęki Małe and Siedliska in the south and Ostrycharze and Augustynów in the west. With the exception of Siedliska in the rural community of Sokolniki, the villages all belong to the local community.

history

The place, a nobility founding in the Wieluń region, was first mentioned in 1371 as "Lutów". Lutold de Wierusz von Münsterberg is considered to be the founder of the settlement. Thanks to the efforts of Bieniasz Wierusz, “Lutuldisthat” (Lutoldsstadt) was granted city rights in 1406 (or 1405). King Władysław II Jagiełło allowed the city to hold fairs and markets on April 7, 1407 . At the beginning of the 17th century, “Lututowskiej Księdze Metrykalnej” had 24 butchers , 20 bakers, 20 shoemakers and 24 cloth makers .

The development of cities in Wieluń Land, including our city, was halted by the wars of the 17th and 18th centuries. For Lututów this meant fires, billeting and epidemics. The year 1720 is considered to be the date of the loss of city rights. After the second division of the Polish state , the city came to the Kingdom of Prussia in 1793, to the Duchy of Warsaw in 1806 and again to the Kingdom of Poland in 1815 , until "Congress Poland" was incorporated into the Russian Empire in 1831 .

During this time, the owner of Lututów, Alojzy Prosper Biernacki (1778-1854), tried to get back the town charter. He also founded the first agricultural school in the Kingdom of Poland in 1817 . The Niższą Szkołę Rolniczą had 60 students at that time. The next owner, Stanisław Biernacki, managed to restore town charter in 1843, while the town was given the right to hold 110 markets a year.

Battle of Lututów 1863

On June 15, 1863, one of the largest skirmishes of the January Uprising took place nearby . The tsarist army with 1630 men faced 250 insurgents under the command of Antoni Korotyński. Only three were captured, 46 seriously wounded insurgents were cared for in Lututów and the 64 dead were buried in a common grave in the cemetery. As a result of the uprising, all cities in the region with the exception of Wieluń were deprived of their city rights. Lututów only regained it after 150 years. The volunteer fire brigade was founded in 1903. Since then, their brass band has accompanied all major events.

After the end of the First World War , Lututów came to the again independent Second Polish Republic in 1918 . After the invasion of Poland in 1939, the city became part of the Reichsgau Wartheland and was given the name Landstett . This was renamed Landstätt in 1943 and belonged to the Welun district . After the end of the Second World War it was given its original name again.

The agricultural school became a branch of the Agricultural University of Wroclaw in 1998 due to its very good equipment . After this 2006 Natural Science University (Uniwersytet Przyrodniczy) structural changes meant the end of the cooperation.
