Pastoral 67

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Pastorale 67 is a radio play by Otto Heinrich Kühner from 1967. It was created in response to a competition in the same year, which asked German writers to give the rural life of the "farmer in industrial society" a new literary face, apart from romanticization and blood and soil -Giving myths in earlier works such as Brot (1930).

Content, structure

The radio play deals with the daily routine of a village from early morning until late at night. This is counterpointed with Beethoven's 6th symphony “Pastorale” - compare with the sentence headings .

Kühner uses the same means as Dylan Thomas in his famous work Unter dem Milchwald . This leads to a necessary distancing from the usual clichés and on the other hand creates an extraordinary closeness to the people portrayed. The radio play is characterized by humor, poetry and a precise knowledge of rural terms.
