Patan ( Nepali पाटन ) is a city ( municipality ) in the far west of Nepal in the Baitadi district .

The city was created on December 2, 2014 by amalgamating the Village Development Committees Basantapur , Bhumeswar , Gujar , Patan , Sakar and Silanga . The urban area covers 119.6 km². Patan is located at an altitude of 1300  m in the Front Himalayas above the Sarnaya Khola river valley . The Mahakali Rajmarg highway from Amargadhi to Dasharathchand runs through Patan. Baitadi Airport is located in Patan .

Residents

At the 2011 census, the VDCs that made up the city of Patan had 19,911 inhabitants (8,996 of them male) in 3,918 households. Thus at that time the population density was 166 inhabitants per square kilometer.
