Sir D'Arcy Patrick Reilly , GCMG , OBE (born March 17, 1909 in Ooty , British India ; † October 6, 1999 ) was a British diplomat who was ambassador to the Soviet Union between 1957 and 1960 and from 1965 to 1968 Ambassador to France was. Life

D'Arcy Patrick Reilly was the only son of Sir Henry D'Arcy Cornelius Reilly, who was President of the Supreme Court of the Princely State of Mysore , and his wife Margaret Florence Reilly. After attending the renowned Winchester College, founded in 1382, he himself began an undergraduate degree at the New College of the University of Oxford , which he completed in 1932 with a Bachelor of Arts (BA). He then worked Laming Traveling Fellow at Queen's College , University of Oxford and entered the diplomatic service in 1933 (HM Diplomatic Service) Ministry of Foreign Affairs ( Foreign Office ) a. He was a fellow at All Souls College, University of Oxford between 1933 and 1939 . In 1947 Patrick Reilly became Counselor at the Embassy in Greece and remained there until 1948. For his services he was accepted as a Companion in the Order of St Michael and St George (CMG) in 1949 . He was then envoy at the embassy in France from 1953 to 1956 . After his return he held the post of Deputy Under-Secretary for Foreign Affairs (Political) between 1956 and 1957 . He was beaten on January 1, 1957 Knight Commander of the Order of St Michael and St George (KCMG), so that from then on he carried the suffix "Sir".

As the successor to William Hayter , Sir Patrick Reilly took over the post of ambassador to the Soviet Union and held it until 1960, after which Frank Kenyon Roberts succeeded him there. He then acted as Deputy Under-Secretary for Foreign Affairs (Economic) at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs . Most recently he replaced Pierson John Dixon as ambassador to France in 1965 and held this post until he was replaced by Christopher Soames in 1968. On June 8, 1968, he was raised to the Knight Grand Cross of the Order of St Michael and St George (GCMG).

After retiring from the diplomatic service, Reilly was Chairman of the Board of Directors of Banque Nationale de Paris Ltd , the former British and French Bank, between 1969 and 1980 . He was married twice. His first marriage was Rachel Mary Sykes, daughter of Brigadier General and travel writer Percy Sykes , who died in 1984 . The two daughters Jane and Sarah Sophia Reilly came from this marriage. After the death of his first wife in 1987, he married Ruth Margaret Cude, who had previously been married three times, most recently to Arthur Norrington , who was principal of Trinity College at the University of Oxford between 1954 and 1970 and Vice Chancellor of the University of Oxford from 1960 to 1962 was.
