Paul Gerhardt Community Center (Berlin-Falkenhagener Feld)
The evangelical Paul Gerhardt community center , built according to a design by Heinz E. Hoffmann and inaugurated on December 9, 1973, is located in the Berlin district of Falkenhagener Feld in the Spandau district , Im Spektefeld 26.
history
A simple wooden house was built as a chapel at Stadtrandstrasse 508 in 1934 and was named after Paul Gerhardt on April 16, 1937 . Today there is a Swedish house as a community base nearby. The parish became independent on April 1, 1947. The name of the chapel was transferred to the new community center after it was completed.
Building description
The single-storey structure , a masonry structure with full basement , is clad with split clinker bricks . The wings of the building with worship room, work and multi-purpose rooms are grouped around a hall in the middle, which receives daylight through a shed roof above the surrounding flat roofs . The church service room can be expanded by sliding doors to the hall for larger events. There are further rooms in the basement . In front of the building is a bell carrier with a bronze bell cast in 1966.
Recently, the building has been expanded into a family center with additional extensions. In addition to the original rooms, there are now also conference and event rooms for socially engaged groups and the like. Carrier.
