Paul Bilke

Paul Bilke (born June 2, 1928 in Lucka , † 2008 ) was a German secret service agent. From 1971 to 1976 he was Head of Department V of the Science Technology Sector in the Ministry for State Security (MfS) of the GDR .

Life

After primary school and training as an electrician , Bilke joined the KPD in 1945 and became a member of the SED in 1946 . In 1950 he reached the final as an engineer at the Engineering School of Zwickau .

In 1953, Bilke was hired in Main Department III of the MfS, responsible for economics. In June 1956, with the rank of captain, he became head of the newly formed working group Scientific and Technical Evaluation (AG WTA), which was initially subordinate to the Deputy Minister Otto Last and from 1957 to the 1st Deputy Minister Otto Walter . Bilke was promoted to major in 1957 . After visiting the political school of the National People's Army (NVA) and the resolution of the department and taken over by the Main Intelligence (HVA) of the Stasi in September 1962 he became Deputy Head of Department V, in charge of economic espionage , the foreign intelligence service of the GDR to East -Berlin . 1964/65 he attended the school of the HVA and was then from 1967 to 1971 Deputy Enlightenment of the head of the district administration Leipzig of the MfS. From July 1971 to 1976 he was then Head of Department V in the MfS. In February 1973 Bilke was promoted to colonel and released in April 1976 to take on "other important tasks" (he became an officer in special operations (OiBe)). On July 1, 1976 Harry Herrmann was appointed as his successor. Bilke then acted as the main department head in the Ministry of Science and Technology . As such, in June 1983 in Madrid, as head of the GDR negotiating delegation, he initialed an intergovernmental agreement on scientific and technical cooperation between the GDR and Spain .

After the fall of the Wall in the GDR, the Central Investigation Office for Government and Association Crime (ZERV) and the public prosecutor's office investigated Walter Tear's kidnapping against Bilke. He was charged in January 1998 with assault and deprivation of liberty. Since no direct involvement could be proven, he was acquitted in the main hearing in July 1998 by the Berlin Regional Court . Bilke was a member of the Initiative Group for the Protection of Social Rights (ISOR) and most recently lived in Berlin-Mitte .
